Using the Mark Schemes

When you are using the mark schemes sometimes there may be certain words or phrases that are important in how you mark the question.

  • If a point is underlined it is essential for the mark. If you haven't included that underlined phrase you don't get the mark, so make sure you green pen your answer.
  • ignore - a phrase or word which will not get you the mark. It is an insufficient key word or explanation that isn't quite detailed enough for the mark.
  • do not allow- a point that is wrong and should not be marked correctly, even if the rest of your answer is correct.
  • (Brackets) - if a phrase is in brackets it not essential for the mark but helps you to understand the mark scheme better.
  • and - both points are required for the mark.
